Family Programs Teaching Artist [Hands-On Art Facilitator] (P/T)—Education

The Brooklyn Museum seeks a teaching artist to design and execute all details of Hands-on Art at First Saturday.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s in Fine Arts or Bachelor’s in visual arts, education, art history, or a related field
Minimum of one year’s museum education experience
Excellent studio teaching skills for young people
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Experience writing lesson plans and track record of meeting deadlines
Ability to design innovative yet simple activities with strong connections to art on view
Knowledge of a variety of media such as drawing, collage, and sculpture
Demonstrable commitment to the Museum’s vision of art as a catalyst for a connected, civic, and empathetic world
Responsibilities:

Design monthly studio art activity (up to 25 minutes) for participants of all ages at Hands-On Art at First Saturday
Order and prep supplies for approximately two hundred people
Schedule studio staff
Set up and clean up studios with team
Facilitate art-making during either ongoing activities or in four timed sessions (every 30 minutes from 6 to 8 pm)
Facilitate staff reflections at end of each Hands-on Art evening

FLSA status: Non-exempt

Salary: $40/hour, up to fourteen hours/month

Schedule: Plan, prep, and execute Hands-on Art at First Saturdays from November 2022 through June 2023 (No program in January). Day-of responsibilities run approximately 4–9 pm; other hours flexible.
