The Assistant Registrar, Acquisitions and Loans, will assist with the care and documentation of the Museum’s rich and varied collections, spanning five thousand years of human creativity. This position will be closely aligned with the work of the Collections Information, Collections Management, Conservation, and Curatorial departments, meeting the Brooklyn Museum’s high standards for registration and collections care.
Requirements:
BA (Art History, Arts Administration, MLIS, Museum Studies)
Three to five years of experience processing incoming acquisitions and/or incoming loans
Experience with collections databases (preferably TMS) and data entry
Excellent communication, organizational, and research skills
Meticulous attention to detail and thorough record keeping
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital/virtual office tools, including Google (Drive, Docs, Forms, Meet, Sheets), and Zoom preferred
Responsibilities:
Processes incoming acquisitions for quarterly Collections Committee meetings; liaises with Curatorial and provides guidance on procedures and workflows; arranges shipping and packing for gifts and purchases; and works with Collections Management and Conservation on object numbering and storage
Assists Chief Registrar with processing long-term loans, communicating with lenders, conducting long-term loan inventories, and researching old loans
Creates accession files and maintains long-term loan records (both digital records and paper files); provides access to and research assistance with Registrar archives for curatorial and other departments as needed
Assists Associate Registrar with collections inquiries and deaccessions as needed
Assists Collections Information with TMS data entry updates, record cleanup and consolidation, and location updates as needed
Assists with numbering questions, object identification, and other TMS projects as needed
