Senior Director, Audience Research, Data, and Insights—Engagement

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Engagement, the Senior Director will lead a new Audience Research, Data, and Insights team and be a key member of the Engagement division, which consists of Marketing, Digital, Customer Relationship Management, Public Relations, Communications, Design, and Retail teams. The Senior Director will be responsible for providing up-to-date, accurate, and relevant data analysis drawn from a wealth of data sources to provide information, inspiration, and strategic guidance about the Museum’s audience, as well as web, mobile and other digital products. The role will play a key part in transforming the Brooklyn Museum into a data-driven organization that conducts evidence-based decision-making.

Qualifications:

At least five years of experience in a data, analytics, or research/insight role in a non-profit organization, or equivalent relevant work experience in a complex, fast-moving environment
Strong track record in leading customer or audience data analytics and CRM services at a strategic and operational level, working with a leading organization or brand
Ability to work from organizational priorities and target data to create meaningful metrics and benchmarks for data analysis and reporting
Extensive experience with driving business and management intelligence reporting across a large, complex organization
Extensive experience with driving data strategy and data management practices and managing stakeholders to ensure good data practice
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to unpack complex issues for non-technical audiences
Excellent attention to detail
Experience in communicating complex data effectively through high-quality reports, visualizations, and presentation, engaging enthusiastically and confidently to influence multiple stakeholders at all levels as well as working collaboratively across diverse and multi-skilled teams
Proactive, collaborative, and innovative approach to problem-solving
Ability to prioritize issues and be highly organized to deliver successful outcomes
Clear, rigorous thinker with an ability to see the bigger picture
Positive contributor in a team environment
Demonstrable, relevant experience in a similar specialist analysis role responsible for producing management information to influence senior-level decision-making within a medium-to-large organization.
Track record in using customer data and analytics to support marketing campaigns and CRM capability in a customer-facing environment
Knowledge of data presentation, interpretation, and visualizations using BI tools
Strong technical analytic skills, including extensive experience with relational databases
Detailed knowledge and understanding of GDPR/data privacy and best practice
Desirable criteria:

Qualifications in market research, analytics, or data science
Understanding of the cultural sector
Experience with working with a CRM
Experience with creating high-quality surveys
Experience with working with sponsors, funders, or fundraising teams
Responsibilities:

Work with leaders in the Engagement division and other key stakeholder departments to develop and drive a robust data strategy for the Museum, including creating an organization-wide culture of collaboration and best practice around data governance, standardization, and management to ensure a healthy data foundation for reporting and analysis
Optimize business intelligence reporting across the Museum, develop a portfolio of data-analytics services with tools, and work with key stakeholders to advise on and align reporting requirements
Lead improving data collection and capture; storage and visualization of data; and providing analysis, insight and dissemination for optimization toward goals
Become an expert user of our CRM system and work closely with the Director of CRM to create a robust CRM strategy to encourage audience retention and loyalty and maximize revenue
Design and test digital and paper surveys to support ongoing audience research and engagement
Conduct ongoing analysis on customer and transactional data providing insights to support Membership, Marketing, and Retail in their decision-making
Provide analytical support to Marketing, Digital, and Membership in developing campaigns and refining communications to reach new audiences and retain existing ones
Champion best practices regarding data and compliance with GDPR and data privacy
Provide peer training and mentoring support to key stakeholders to build data literacy and confidence across the Museum at all levels
Lead the development of an accessible data and insight library and dashboards, enabling colleagues to source insight more independently

Schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm; occasional weekend and evening hours required
