The Senior Manager of Collection Planning (SMCP) is a new position that will play a critical role in the Museum’s long-term planning for upcoming capital projects, intended to improve our gallery experience and presentation. This will require changes in the function of various spaces as well as major relocation and consolidation of storage. The SMCP will be responsible for the project management of collection moves and storage planning related to capital projects as well as for incoming and outgoing works. These are expected to increase in the coming years as we cultivate gifts in honor of the Museum’s two-hundredth anniversary, and we will need highly efficient collections planning to maximize storage capacity. Reporting to the Director of Registration and Collections Management, the SMCP will work closely with the Senior Manager of Collections, who oversees the day-to-day moves and care of the collection; the Senior Manager of Collections Information; and the Collection Registrars as well as with the Chief Conservator, the Conservators, the Art Handlers, the Art Division, and the Capital Projects team. The successful candidate will be a highly skilled project manager with specific experience in complex relocations of Museum collections and a strong and clear communicator who understands the essential role of collaboration in the workplace. The applicant will also demonstrate an ability to build positive professional relationships as well as excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
