The Major Gifts Officer is an essential member of the Development team that will be responsible for identifying and cultivating relationships with prospective major gift donors and planned giving donors. This involves full use of moves management principles, including prospect identification, and developing effective stewardship and solicitation strategies. The Major Gifts Officer will compile this information in a donor portfolio and emphasize gifts in excess of $10,000, with emphasis on those over $25,000 or greater. This individual will serve as a staff representative on the Museum’s Development Committee of the Board, and work directly with staff leadership to coordinate and execute long-term fundraising initiatives. This is a full-time, regular position that reports directly to the Director, Individual and Major Gifts.
The Director of Major and Individual Gifts is an essential member of the Development team that will be responsible for managing the Museum’s individual funder portfolio. This role focuses on raising funds from individuals through membership, annual gifts, planned gifts, and major gifts overseeing all individual giving activities. The Director also leads a team of three staff members dedicated for major gift cultivation and stewardship, patron communications, household and library member renewals and reporting, membership retention and acquisition, and organizing events in conjunction with other Development team staff. Additionally, the Director secures restricted gifts for Museum exhibitions, public programs, and education programs. This is a full-time, regular position that reports directly to the Executive Vice President.
The Director of Information Technology (IT) is an essential member of the IT team that will be responsible for the safety, security, and integrity of the Museum’s IT systems, which are housed onsite, at our offsite storage facility, and ‘in the cloud’. This role will lead the Museum through rapid technological changes and further the Museum’s mission by enhancing and maintaining technology systems throughout the organization. The Director will drive multiple technology and business strategies while striving to maintain maximum ROI on technology investments. The Director will also lead a team that will collaboratively ensure that IT systems and IT staff operate effectively within the constraints of budget, time, and organizational requirements. This is a full-time, regular position that reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
The Bilingual Museum Educator is an essential member of the Education team that will be responsible for providing interactive experiences for K-12 audiences in Spanish and English. The Education Manager, Professional Learning is an essential member of the Museum’s Frederick A.O. Schwarz Education Center and will be responsible for developing curriculum and leading high-quality, interactive, and learner-driven workshops, courses, and tours for K-12 educators and teachers that are aligned with best practices in history, art, and/or civics education. The ideal candidate will have direct experience facilitating professional learning programs and developing content for K-12 educators in a museum, school, or educational non-profit setting. The Museum seeks an Assistant Registrar, to work directly with the Registrar in maintaining the intellectual control of both the City Museum’s collections objects and those loaned to the Museum for exhibition. The position reports directly to the Registrar, and works closely with curators, exhibitions designers, and preparators.
The Education Operations Coordinator serves a key role in ensuring the Museum's Frederick A.O. Schwarz Education Center can serve its audiences by supporting department operations and operating in a customer service role to schedule and coordinate groups for field trips and education programs. The Education Operations Coordinator will serve in an administrative capacity and will report to the Center’s Assistant Director of Education.
In concert with the Collections Department, the Associate Collections Manager is responsible for the care, preservation, and documentation of the Museum of the City of New York’s collection. E&E Fellows, along with all their colleagues in the
Museum’s Education and Engagement departments, will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a passion for advancing equity and addressing structural racism within nonprofit organizations.
Education Fellows will lead field trips and student experiences in the Museum of the City of New York’s innovative gallery spaces and through virtual teaching. Field trips use the Museum’s exhibitions, collections, and educational materials to provide engaging, memorable, and magical programs for K-12 students. The Museum is committed to excellence in teaching and stresses high-quality, interactive, and learner-driven programming for students. Field trips are interdisciplinary and bring together history, art, and STEM. Educators support learners in gaining the skills of museum literacy and historical inquiry, and are trained to facilitate discussion through object inquiry, close observation of artifacts and visuals, and other interactive engagement techniques.
Education Fellows will also work alongside the Museum’s Education and Engagement Staff on additional projects, including school partnerships, professional learning workshops for teachers, family and community events, and social impact programming.
Fellows will participate in a rich variety of training and professional development experiences. An ideal role for people who are curious and passionate learners, Fellows will gain a deep understanding and appreciation of a wide variety of topics, including food system sustainability and food justice, social activism movements, and the
themes throughout NYC’s past and present of money, density, diversity, and creativity.
Fellows report to the Education Manager of Student Learning and Experience and work closely with peer educators and others in the E&E departments at the museum. Fellows will have ongoing and frequent opportunities to collaborate and share ideas with colleagues to create programming that supports students in seeing themselves in the spectrum of New York City history and becoming engaged residents of the city. Education Fellows are paid $25/hour for 18 hours per week, three days per week from 9am-4pm. Preference will
be given to candidates who can work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and one additional day (Monday, Thursday, or Friday). This is a 10-month contracted position from September 6, 2022 – June 30, 2023. Some limited weekend and evening work is expected, with prior confirmation of availability. Please note that all educators will be required to be fingerprinted through the New York City Department of Education. This cost is covered by the Museum.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Teach high-quality, engaging, and interactive field trips and programs for K-12 audiences
• Participate in and contribute to training and discussions around to group engagement, which may
involve content, pedagogy, and best practices for distinct populations

The Museum seeks Marketing Coordinator to work directly with the VP of Marketing and Communications. The Marketing Coordinator supports the Museum’s earned income (sales) in the areas of TV and livestream content development, digital experiences, and consumer products. The position is responsible for the coordination of various business development initiatives through organizing, streamlining, and maximizing intellectual property efforts in order to support new initiatives and ultimately drive revenue for the Museum.
In addition to working closely with outside consultants and law firms, the Coordinator will also interface frequently with other areas of the Museum including Curatorial, Collections, Finance, and Rights and Reproductions.
The Museum of the City of New York is seeking a full‐time Institutional Archivist for an initial period of two years with extensions possible, supported by a generous grant from the Leon Levy Foundation. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Museum’s institutional archives program and supporting preparation for the Museum’s Centennial, in 2023. The Museum seeks a Digital Producer to join the Marketing team. The ideal candidate should be energetic, a problem-solver and well-organized. The candidate must possess excellent project management and writing skills as well as the ability to juggle multiple and diverse assignments with departmental stakeholders. The candidate must also have a knowledge of Drupal 8 and Wordpress.
This position will be responsible for driving management of several digital properties including MCNY.org, digital exhibition installations, and maintenance of our current apps. Working closely with Curators and Collections staff, the Collections Manager of Costume is responsible for the care and documentation of the Museum of the City of New York’s costume collection. In this capacity, the Collections Manager of Costumes facilitates activities in the galleries and Costume Collection storerooms, executing best practices in collections care and coordinating conservation as appropriate. The Collections Manager will maintain and expand on record keeping directly related to the costume collection. The Collections Manager will also be involved in developing policies and standards for judicious acquisition and deaccessioning of objects.
