Senior Director of Finance

Reporting to the General Counsel and COO, the Senior Director of Finance is the principal financial steward of the long-term fiscal health and viability of the Museum. As the principal financial officer of the Museum, the Senior Director of Finance has primary responsibility to provide strategic financial guidance and planning, treasury and investment management, and financial reporting and analytics to the Museum’s leadership and staff, to oversee the development of the annual operating budget and monitor actual results against the budget, and to manage the Museum’s investment, banking and institutional financing relationships. The Senior Director of Finance also supervises and supports the work of the museum’s controller in overseeing daily, monthly, and annual accounting processes.

Lead Building Engineer

Reporting to the Director of Building Operations and Safety, the Lead Building Engineer must be a proficient HVAC specialist responsible for overseeing MEP mechanical trades within the building's systems. The Lead Building Engineer will apply preventative maintenance practices and diligently address daily work orders from various museum departments. This role also entails managing and monitoring O+M budget expenditures, taking into account the typical budget constraints associated with a not-for-profit institution.

The Studio Museum in Harlem seeks a Digital Content Associate to support the development of public-facing digital content on studiomuseum.org and the Museum’s various other digital platforms. Reporting to the Digital Communications Manager, the Digital Content Associate will work with the communications team, and cross departmentally, to create a rich digital library in support of the Museum’s mission that is engaging, relevant, and impactful to audiences. The ideal candidate can think creatively and work quickly to help execute wide ranging projects across web and social media.

Senior Graphic Designer

The Studio Museum in Harlem seeks a Senior Graphic Designer to lead creative production and advance the institution’s reputation as a 21st Century Museum dedicated to championing and incubating Black artistic vision. A key stakeholder in shaping and maintaining the Museum’s brand and visual identity, the designer will be a member of the Marketing and Communications team while working with internal stakeholders to identify needs and requirements for production of attractive and well-designed assets.

Note: This is a contract position with an intent to hire full time at the end of the contract term assuming satisfactory performance.

Press Officer/Writer

As the Studio Museum prepares to open its new purpose-built museum in the center of Harlem, the Museum seeks a dynamic Press Officer/Writer to support the museum’s communications campaign and editorial initiatives while supporting the museum Director and Chief Curator with ongoing requests for writing and public speaking engagements. Studio Museum Institute Coordinator

Director of Finance

The Director of Finance will be a strategic thought-partner reporting to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer (CFOO). The successful candidate will be a hands-on and participative manager and will lead and develop an outsourced and internal team to support the following areas: financial planning and analysis, budget process and cash management. Executive Assistant to the Director

The Executive Assistant to the Director and Chief Curator will be responsible for providing direct administrative support to the Director and Chief Curator of The Studio Museum in Harlem. The responsibilities and skills required of this role are wide-ranging.

Expanding the Walls Coordinator

The Studio Museum in Harlem is looking for a highly motivated, energetic museum education professional to be responsible for the coordination of the Museum’s signature Expanding the Walls Program.

Youth Programs at the Studio Museum provide a safe environment for teens to express themselves creatively. Programs offer students the opportunity to meet and converse with prominent visual artists, express their ideas in discussions, participate in tours and hands-on workshops, and develop important communication and critical thinking skills.

The Expanding the Walls Program Coordinator facilitates all aspects of Expanding the Walls: Making Connections Between Photography, History and Community (ETW), a multi-faceted intergenerational program that uses James VanDerZee Archive as the point of entry for people of all ages to share experiences and perspectives on community, identity, American history, and culture. At the core of ETW is a group of high school-age students selected for an eight-month photography-based experience. Participants engage in a regimen of discussion groups, art workshops, and field excursions while learning the basics of digital photography in order to investigate connections between history, community, and identity through the lens of a camera. Expanding the Walls provides participants with an opportunity to curate an exhibition of their work in partnership with Studio Museum education staff and curators. Participants receive extensive training on inquiry-based discussion methods to work effectively with youth, families, and older adults, building an intergenerational dialogue around the ever-evolving notion of community.

Administrative Associate to the Director's Office

The Administrative Associate to the Director's Office will report directly to the Chief Strategy Officer and Chief of Staff. This position will provide critical support to the Director's Office and assist in the planning, management, and preparation of materials required to effectively support the activities of the Director and Chief Curator and work on governance with the Board of Trustees.
The ideal candidate will show initiative and be well equipped to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The potential candidate will be capable of working on projects both independently and under supervision while possessing extraordinary attention to detail combined with exemplary writing and communication skills.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a collaborative and culturally diverse setting and possess the openness, flexibility, and diplomacy required to work with every department across the Museum.

Grant Writer

The Grant Writer is responsible for developing and writing winning grant proposals designed to secure funding from public institutions, private foundations and corporations, and other grant-making entities, to support and implement the Studio Museum’s program. The Grant Writer will possess exemplar writing and communication skills and will persuasively convey the Museum’s mission and programs to potential funders. Reporting to the Director of Development, this person will develop strategies, craft narratives, assemble and submit grant requests, conduct prospect research, and maintain a calendar of submissions and reporting deadlines, as well as creating and overseeing the necessary tracking systems and procedures.

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a full range of activities required to conceptualize, write, submit, and manage grant proposals

  • Oversee grant calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports

  • Liaise with Museum departments to collect relevant program information, attendance and audience details, publicity and marketing materials, budgets and financial data, to create compelling applications and collateral

  • Steward current supporters by providing regular updates and giving key stakeholders opportunities to engage with leadership

  • Research prospects for new support

  • Coordinate site visits for foundation leadership and program officers

  • Maintain institutional giving records in database and digital files, including grant tracking and reporting

  • Create gift transmittals and draft acknowledgement letters

  • Maintain list of institutional credit lines

  • Assist with other fundraising projects as requested

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 3-6 years of relevant experience

  • Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential. The successful candidate will be an exceptional writer, and be able to craft funding proposals in a clear and compelling manner

  • Candidate must be detail-oriented and highly organized

  • A strong understanding of the development process and nature of foundation philanthropy

  • Able to gather and synthesize information and communicate in a compelling and succinct form

  • Self-starter able to meet deadlines, work collaboratively and manage several projects at once, including ability to handle confidential information with complete discretion

  • An understanding of budgets as they relate to proposal and grant procurement

  • Proficient computer skills and in-depth knowledge of relevant software such as MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, and Word)

  • Dedication to quality control and ownership of job responsibilities

  • Ability to work well under pressure
